GCP Cloud Engineer
Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled GCP Cloud Engineer to implement, support, and maintain secure, scalable, and automated cloud solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The role focuses on day-to-day cloud engineering activities, operational support, deployment execution, environment management, and infrastructure maintenance across multiple GCP environments.
The ideal candidate will possess strong hands-on experience in GCP services, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and cloud operations, along with the ability to support application teams and resolve operational issues in a fast-paced enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Infrastructure & Environment Support
Support and maintain GCP environments across Development, Testing, UAT, Pre-Production, and Production environments.
Perform day-to-day implementation and operational support activities for cloud infrastructure and platform services.
Deploy, configure, and maintain GCP services such as:
GKE, Cloud Run, Cloud Functions
BigQuery, Bigtable, Cloud SQL, Spanner
Pub/Sub, Memorystore, Artifact Registry
Cloud Storage and related platform services
Configure and maintain networking components including:
VPC, Shared VPC, VPC Peering
Private Service Connect, Private Google Access
Load Balancers, Cloud DNS, Cloud Armor, Firewall Rules
VPN and Interconnect connectivity
Support environment provisioning, updates, patching, and operational maintenance activities.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
Consume and implement approved Terraform modules/templates
Execute infrastructure provisioning and environment updates using reusable Terraform modules and templates.
Support implementation of Infrastructure as Code standards and best practices.
Assist in troubleshooting Terraform deployment and infrastructure provisioning issues.
Containerization & Kubernetes Support
Manage and maintain containerized applications using Docker.
Support workloads deployed on GKE (Google Kubernetes Engine) and Cloud Run.
Assist with Kubernetes deployment configurations, scaling, and operational support activities.
Support microservices-based deployments and orchestration activities.
Monitoring, Troubleshooting & Operational Maintenance
Monitor cloud infrastructure and application environments using Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, Dynatrace, and related tools.
Perform operational maintenance activities to ensure platform reliability and stability.
Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure, deployment, networking, and environment-related issues.
Respond to operational tickets, incidents, alerts, and service requests within defined SLAs.
Provide technical support to frontend and backend application teams for cloud platform and deployment-related issues.
Security & Governance Support
Implement and maintain IAM roles, policies, and access controls within GCP environments.
Ensure adherence to organizational security standards, governance policies, and operational procedures.
Support secure networking and connectivity configurations.
Assist with compliance remediation and operational governance activities.
Collaboration & Agile Practices
Participate in Scrum ceremonies including stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and release discussions.
Collaborate with:
Platform engineers and architects
Frontend and backend development teams
DevOps and QA teams
Onsite and offshore stakeholders
Maintain technical documentation, deployment procedures, and operational runbooks using Confluence and related tools.
Provide regular progress updates on assigned implementation and operational tasks.
Continuous Improvement
Stay updated with GCP services, cloud operations practices, and DevOps trends.
Identify opportunities to improve automation, operational efficiency, deployment reliability, and platform stability.
Contribute to process improvements for environment support and operational maintenance activities.
Support ongoing initiatives related to platform optimization and cost efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field or comparable GCP certifications like Associate Cloud Engineer or Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer
4–6 years of IT experience with minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in GCP.
Hands-on experience with:
Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
Terraform (Infrastructure as Code)
Docker & containerization
CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and SonarQube
Scripting (Bash/Shell, Groovy)
Working knowledge of:
GCP services and cloud architecture
Networking (VPC, VPN, Interconnect)
Security, IAM, and governance
Monitoring and logging tools
Familiarity with YAML and JSON configurations.
Experience working with Atlassian tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and Bitbucket.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
Experience with:
Kubernetes (GKE)
Cloud Run and serverless platforms
Microservices-based architectures
Hybrid cloud environments (On-Prem + GCP)
Exposure to:
Dynatrace and observability platforms
Apigee API management
Akamai integrations
GitOps and deployment automation tools
Knowledge of build tools such as NPM and Gradle.
